Meet the team
I absolutely love spending time with our amazing students each week, building learning confidence within a fun, supportive and structured programme.
After nearly 20 years of classroom teaching I am extremely excited that I have the opportunity to work with groups of no more than 2 students as they achieve their learning goals and develop their learning confidence. Working with students who require that little extra care has always been a passion of mine and the reason I chose teaching as a career.
Confidence is the key to success and enables students to take risks without the fear of failure or judgement. I am very proud to say that at Back2Basics Tuition we do everything within our power to make each an every lesson a time to celebrate the awesome young learners our Treasure Pops are!!!
I am grateful for our wonderful students, parents, teachers, tutors, venues and the fact that I actually have my dream job!!!
Hi, my name is Helen Hughes and it is a pleasure to work with Sharon and the other educators at Back2Basics Tuition.
I have been teaching for 8 years and I love working with all age groups. Prior to teaching I was a teacher aide. In that role I had the luxury of working 1:1 with children and I experienced the many benefits this situation provides for learning. As a classroom teacher I really missed that 1:1 time with students and being able to provide truly individualised plans.
So imagine how excited I am to be teaching maths and literacy with our students of differing ages and abilities, knowing that their teacher ledlessons are in groups of no more than 2 students and tailored to their own individual needs and goals.
I look forward to seeing our students every week and love their enthusiasm to learn. I am delighted to part be of their learning journey.
Kia ora koutou, Ko Megan Bevan tōku ingoa, e rere ana ngā mihi ki a koutou katoa
Hi everyone, I am Megan Bevan and I am very proud to be part of the fabulous Back2Basics team!
I’m a mum to two awesome teenagers and a part time teacher at a local primary school. I have been teaching for 8 years.
I have a particular interest in literacy, so this year I took up a special opportunity to train in Reading Recovery. This means I get to work one-on-one with early learners, helping to accelerate both their reading skills and their reading confidence. I am also enrolled at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, where I am advancing my Te Reo Māori, another passion of mine.
The Back2Basics teachers and tutors share my love of children and teaching and my desire to build confidence in each and every one of my students. For me, teaching cannot begin unless and until a student wants to learn and feels confident in themselves as a learner. The only way we can facilitate this as teachers, is to build warm, encouraging and genuine relationships with our students. I am so grateful to be part of a team who share that belief.
Hi, I am Jess and I'm a year 13 student at Waikato Dio. I play waterpolo, volleyball and also enjoy drama/acting.
My role at Back2Basics Tuition involves working with students to cement the learning they have been introduced to by the teachers. We do this through a variety of fun games and challenges.
I love working with young students and helping them with their learning. Their amazing, vibrant personalities brighten my days and I always look forward to the afternoons that I work at Back2Basics Tuition.
